A bug in #21 causes the default configuration to be omitted from the xorg merging process. This can cause users not using set-xorg-configuration or service extensions to end up with a broken configuration. 2025-12-26gnu: Merge xorg configurations when extending.Ian Eure
Configuration for xorg is embedded in the various display-manager configuration records, and extension support is factored out into the `handle-xorg-configuration' macro. However, the extension mechanism replaces the existing xorg-configuration with the supplied one, making it impossible to compose configuration from multiple sources. This patch adds a procedure to merge two xorg-configuration records, and calls it within handle-xorg-configuration, allowing the config to be built piecemeal. * gnu/services/xorg.scm (merge-xorg-configurations): New variable. To allow X server to be started by shepherd, without resorting to login managers, the determine-vty procedure has to be adjusted. 2024-05-30services: xorg: Add xorg-start-command-xinit procedure.Tomas Volf
When the user does not use any desktop environment, the typical sequence is to log in and then type `startx' into the tty to get a window manager running. Most distributions do provide a startx by default, but Guix has only an xorg-start-command that is not suitable for this. This commit adds a second procedure, xorg-start-command-xinit, that correctly picks a virtual terminal to use, sets up XAUTHORITY and starts xinit with the correct arguments. That should make running Guix without a desktop environment more approachable. * gnu/services/xorg.scm (xorg-start-command-xinit): New public procedure. * doc/guix.texi (X Window): Document it. screen-locker-service-type by default does both define PAM entry and make program setuid binary. Normally both methods are mutually exclusive, if binary has setuid set it does not really needs PAM, otherway around also similar, if PAM is enabled binary should not relay on setuid. Recent swaylock package now compiled with PAM support. When PAM support is compiled in, swaylock rejects executing if binary is also setuid program. This change turns screen-locker-configuration from strict PAM AND setuid to more flexible PAM AND/OR setuid. Allowing swaylock to be configured properly while supporting other screen locker preferences. * gnu/services/xorg.scm (screen-locker-configuration): Switch from define-record-type to define-configuration. This patch adds support for proper xorg server input rewriting. It uses the lookup-package-direct-input procedure to configure the X server paths dynamically, instead of always using the hard coded package.
